Health care
Hi all, so this channel will be guiding you through the available healthcare here in Hungary whether you wish to register for the national health service or go private. Registering for national healthcare will require being a resident here with an address. I have first hand experience of both private and national health service and I can say the service is excellent. Few differences in national health than the Uk but essentially to a very high standard. The dental service especially in the private sector is exceptional. It not only offers way more options than Uk dentistry it is much much cheaper. There is actually dental tourism offered in Hungary and especially Budapest.

REGISTERING FOR HEALTHCARE GUIDE. (Always do your own research this is just a guide only)
To obtain medical support from the Hungarian national health service as a UK citizen moving to Hungary, follow these steps:
Check Eligibility: Confirm your eligibility for healthcare under the reciprocal health agreement between the UK and Hungary. You can access free healthcare if you have a UK-issued Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) or European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for temporary stays.
Register for Social Security: If you plan to work in Hungary, ensure your employer registers you for social security contributions. This will entitle you to healthcare services.
Obtain a TAJ Card: Apply for a Hungarian health insurance card (TAJ card) at your local government office (kormányablak). This card is essential for accessing public healthcare services.
Choose a General Practitioner (GP): Register with a local GP who has a contract with the National Health Insurance Fund (NEAK). You can find a GP by entering your address on the NEAK website.
Access Healthcare Services: Present your TAJ card when visiting healthcare providers. For specialist care, obtain a referral from your GP unless it's for specific services like dentistry or gynecology.
Emergency Care: In emergencies, you can receive treatment without prior registration. Call 112 for immediate assistance.
Consider Private Insurance: While public healthcare is available, consider obtaining private health insurance for quicker access to services and better facilities if needed.

The “TAJ”, also called as social security code (in Hungarian: társadalombiztosítási azonosító jel) is a nine digit code used for personal identification in the administrative processes related to healthcare, social administration, health and pension insurance. The TAJ card is an official identification card.
